He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 olives, dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
