Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 and ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
