He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And whereas he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
