And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 Then they will be thrown on their faces into the (Fire), They and the Ghawun (devils, and those who were in error). 94 and the army of satan will all be thrown headlong into hell. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
