Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a high Garden. 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions ranged 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 you are not their keeper. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
