The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 but We see it near. 7 The Day that the sky will be like the boiling filth of oil, (or molten copper or silver or lead, etc.). 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 and who accumulated wealth without spending it for a good purpose. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Except those who pray, 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord-- 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 who guard their privates 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35
