He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And hath fear, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
