AND, INDEED, We have created man out of sounding clay, out of dark-slime transmuted 26 and the jinn before (the human being) of smokeless fire. 27 And when your Lord said to the angels: Surely I am going to create a mortal of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 28 So when I have made him complete and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down making obeisance to him. 29 All the angels prostrated themselves, 30 But Iblis (did it not); he refused to be with those who made obeisance. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis! what is your reason for not being among those who prostrated themselves?" 32 Iblis replied, "I did not want to prostrate before a human being whom You have created out of mud-moulded clay". 33 Said He: "Go forth, then, from this [angelic state]: for, behold, thou art [henceforth] accursed, 34 A curse shall be on you till the Day of Recompense' 35 Said he, 'My Lord, respite me till the day they shall be raised.' 36 He answered: 'You are among those reprieved 37 till the appointed time. 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 Except, among them, Your chosen servants." 40 Allah said: this is the path leading unto Me straight. 41 No power shall you have over (all) My creatures except those who fall into error and follow you, 42 "And surely, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
