The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 And pollution shun. 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then looked he, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
