The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And the day resplendent 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
