The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Merciful 1 has taught the Quran to (Muhammad). 2 He created man. 3 and He taught him speech. 4 The sun and the moon follow a reckoning. 5 And the stars and trees prostrate. 6 He raised the heavens and set up everything in balance, 7 That you may not be inordinate in respect of the measure. 8 Give just weight and do not skimp the scales. 9 And the earth hath He appointed for (His) creatures, 10 Therein are fruit and palm-trees with their dates in sheaths, 11 And also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-scented plants. 12 Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord, will ye twain belie? 13 He has created man from dry, rotten clay like the potter's, 14 And created jinns from the white-hot flame of fire. 15 Which of the wonders of your Lord's power will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 16 Lord of the two easts and of the two wests is He. 17 Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? 18 He hath let loose the two seas. 19 Between them is a barrier, which they do not overrun. 20 Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? 21 There come forth from the twain the pearl and the coral. 22 Which, of your Lord's wonders would you deny? 23 And to Him belong the ships [with sails] elevated in the sea like mountains. 24 Which of your Lord's wonders would you deny? 25
