Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (awhile) and send out heralds to the cities 111 Who will bring you every learned magician." 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 "Yes," said he, "you will be among the honoured." 114 They said: "O Moses! Either thou shalt throw [thy staff first,] or we shall [be the first to] throw." 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ So the truth came to pass, and false was proved what they were doing. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- 121 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 122 Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know. 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They said, 'Surely unto our Lord we are turning. 125 “And what did you dislike in us, except that we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Pour (bestow abundantly) patience on us, and bestow us death as Muslims.” 126
