He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
