Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 in a sublime garden, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
