The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
