And they ask you regarding Zul-Qarnain; say, “I shall recite his story to you.” 83 We established him in the land, and We gave him a way to everything; 84 So he followed a way 85 Until when he reached the place where the sun set, he found it going down into a black sea, and found by it a people. We said: O Zulqarnain! either give them a chastisement or do them a benefit. 86 He said: "We will chastise him who does wrong, whereafter he will be returned to his Lord and He will chastise him grievously. 87 And as for him who believes and does good, he shall have goodly reward, and We will speak to him an easy word of Our command. 88 Thereafter he followed a way. 89 Till, when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had appointed no shelter therefrom. 90 Thus was the state of those people, and We encompassed in knowledge all concerning Dhu al- Qarnayn. 91 Then he set out on another expedition 92 after this to the middle of two mountains where he found a people who could hardly understand a single word. 93 They said, “O Zul-Qarnain – indeed Yajuj and Majuj* are spreading chaos in the land – so shall we assign for you a consideration upon the condition that you set up a wall between us and them?” (* Gog and Magog.) 94 He answered: "That wherein my Sustainer has so securely established me is better [than anything that you could give me]; hence, do but help me with [your labour's] strength, [and] I shall erect a rampart between you and them! 95 "Bring me blocks of iron." At length, when he had filled up the space between the two steep mountain-sides, He said, "Blow (with your bellows)" Then, when he had made it (red) as fire, he said: "Bring me, that I may pour over it, molten lead." 96 So they [Gog and Magog] were not able to scale it, nor were they able to bore through it, 97 Dhul-Qarnain) said: "This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the Promise of my Lord comes, He shall level it down to the ground. And the Promise of my Lord is ever true." 98 ۞ And We shall leave them on that day surging one against other and the trumpet shall be blown, and then We shall assemble them together. 99 And We shall present Hell that day for Unbelievers to see, all spread out,- 100 Those whose eyes had been within a cover [removed] from My remembrance, and they were not able to hear. 101
