Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
BEHOLD. We sent Noah unto his people. [Saying:] "Warn thy people ere grievous suffering befall them! 1 [And Noah] said: "O my people! I am but a plain warner to you, [sent to tell you] 2 That you should serve Allah and be careful of (your duty to) Him and obey me: 3 He will forgive you your sins, and will defer you to an appointed term. Verily the term of Allah when it cometh shall not be deferred, if ye but knew. 4 He said: "O my Lord! I have called to my People night and day: 5 but my call has only caused them to flee farther and farther away [from Thee]. 6 Each time I called them so that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers in their ears and wrapped themselves in their garments, and persisted becoming very proud. 7 Then I called them loudly and more openly, 8 And lo! I have made public proclamation unto them, and I have appealed to them in private. 9 And I told them: 'Ask your Lord to forgive you. He is verily forgiving. 10 ‘He will send down abundant rain for you from the sky.’ 11 and will aid you with worldly goods and children, and will bestow upon you gardens, and bestow upon you running waters. 12 What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allah [due] grandeur 13 when He has created you through different stages of existence? 14 "Have you not seen that God has created the seven heavens one above the other 15 and set the moon therein for a light and the sun for a lamp? 16 "'And God has caused you to grow out of the earth in [gradual] growth; and thereafter He will return you to it [in death]: 17 And afterward He maketh you return thereto, and He will bring you forth again, a (new) forthbringing. 18 And God has laid the earth for you as a carpet, 19 So that you may walk upon its spacious paths.' 20
