Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 by the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Enter among My servants 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
