Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ The Indubitable! 1 How awesome that laying-bare of the truth! 2 And what shall make thee know that which the Inevitable Calamity is. 3 The Thamud and the Ad denied the (possibility of a) sudden calamity, calling it false. 4 But the Thamud,- they were destroyed by a terrible Storm of thunder and lightning! 5 And as for A’ad, they were destroyed by a severe thundering windstorm. 6 Which He made to prevail against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you might have seen the people therein prostrate as if they were the trunks of hollow palms. 7 Then do you see of them any remains? 8 Pharoah and those before him and the inhabitants of the overthrown cities persistently committed grave sins. 9 and they rebelled against the Messenger of their Lord, and He seized them with a surpassing grip. 10 Lo, when the waters rose, We bore you in the running ship 11 as a lesson for you, but only attentive ears will retain it. 12 When a single blow is blown on the Horn, 13 and the earth and the mountains are lifted up and crushed with a single blow, 14 on that Day the Great Event will come to pass. 15 And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm. 16 On its fringes will be angels, eight of them, bearing their Lord's throne aloft. 17 On that day you shall be exposed, not one secret of yours concealed. 18 Then he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read ye my Record! 19 Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning. 20 He is therefore in the desired serenity. 21 in an exalted garden 22 with clusters of fruit within easy reach. 23 We shall say to him, "Eat and drink joyfully as a reward for the good deeds you did in days gone by." 24 But he who is given his record in his left hand will say, "If only I had never been given my Record 25 Nor that I knew my reckoning! 26 Oh, would that this [death of mine] had been the end of me! 27 My wealth has been of no use to me. 28 Vanished has my power from me." 29 [Thereupon the command will go forth:] "Lay hold of him, and shackle him, 30 then throw them into hell to be heated up therein. 31 "Then fasten him with a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits!" 32 He did not believe in God the supreme, 33 Nor urged others to feed the poor. 34 Therefor hath he no lover here this day, 35 Nor any food except filth from the washing of wounds, 36 None will eat it except the sinners. 37
