The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
