The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 The Companions of the Right 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 And abundant fruit, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
