۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 How is it that you are not helping one another? 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 They will turn upon one another, and question one another. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. 33 Verily We! in this wise We deal with the culprits. 34 Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 Save single-minded slaves of Allah; 40 For them is a known sustenance, 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 In Gardens of Felicity, 43 on couches facing each other. 44 A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 Neither they will have Ghoul (any kind of hurt, abdominal pain, headache, a sin, etc.) from that, nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. 47 And with them will be mates of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye, 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 Said one of the speakers: "I had a friend 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ – 52 (Do you think) we would be paid back our due when we are dead and reduced to dust and bones?' 53 He says, 'Are you looking down?' 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 He will say to his friend in hell, "By God, you almost destroyed me. 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?" 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 its fruit [as repulsive] as satans' heads; 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then after it, indeed for them is the drink of boiling hot water. 67 Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire. 68 for, behold, they found their forebears on a wrong way, 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 Before them a multitude of people of olden times had erred, 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 Not so the chosen servants of God. 74
