The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and spreading shade 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those on the right. 38
