The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
