He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
