The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 in which you are now living 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
