AND, BEHOLD, Jonah was indeed one of Our message-bearers 139 He abandoned his people 140 Then he joined the lots, and was of the condemned. 141 and the fish swallowed him while he was blaming himself. 142 Had he not been one of those who glorify Allah, 143 He would have tarried in its belly till the day when they are raised; 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand, rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. 148 Then ask them whether your Lord has daughters and they have sons. 149 Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses? 150 Verily, it is of their falsehood that they (Quraish pagans) say: 151 " Allah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What ails you then, how you judge? 154 Will you not then reflect? 155 Or have you, perchance, a clear evidence [for your assertions]? 156 Bring your Book, if you speak truly! 157 And some people have invented a kinship between Him and all manner of invisible forces although [even] these invisible forces know well that, verily, they [who thus blaspheme against God] shall indeed be arraigned [before Him on Judgment Day: for] 158 God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him 159 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 160 So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship, 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 except him who shall roast in the Blazing Fire. 163 There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (or position); 164 we are the rangers, 165 and we are of those who glorify Allah.” 166 What though they would say, 167 “If only we had the Reminder which had been granted to the people of yore 168 we would have been sincere worshipers of Allah' 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys; 171 will certainly be victorious 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 So turn away (O Muhammad SAW) from them for a while, 174 And see them thou; they themselves shall presently see. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 When that chastisement will descend upon their courtyard, evil shall that Day be for those who had been warned. 177 Withdraw from them awhile 178 And see thou: they themselves shall presently see. 179 Glory be to your Lord: the Lord of Glory is far above what they attribute to Him. 180 And peace is upon the Noble Messengers. 181 And all praise unto Allah the Lord of the worlds. 182
