The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water everflowing. 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
