In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 Indeed We have created man from mixed semen; in order to test him – We therefore made him hearing, knowing. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains, fetters, and a Blaze. 4 The virtuous ones will drink from a cup containing camphor 5 This will be a gushing spring wherefrom Allah's servants shall drink wine, a spring from which they will take out channels wherever they wish. 6 They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 (Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks. 9 Lo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate. 10 Wherefore Allah shall preserve them from the evil of that Day, and shall cause them to meet brightness and joy. 11 And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]. 12 Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. 13 since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. 19 wherever you look, you will see bliss and a great kingdom: 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
