The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great tidings! 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 The night a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 except boiling water and pus 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
