He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you ignore him. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
