We created you, then We shaped you, then We said to the angels: 'Bow yourselves to Adam'; so they bowed themselves, save Iblis -- he was not of those that bowed themselves. 11 Said He, 'What prevented thee to bow thyself, when I commanded thee?' Said he, 'I am better than he; Thou createdst me of fire, and him Thou createdst of clay.' 12 He said: Then get forth from this (state), for it does not befit you to behave proudly therein. Go forth, therefore, surely you are of the abject ones. 13 Satan replied: 'Give me respite till the Day they shall be raised.' 14 Said He, 'Thou art among the ones that are respited.' 15 "Since You led me into error," said Iblis, "I shall lie in wait for them along Your straight path. 16 Then I will certainly come to them from before them and from behind them, and from their right-hand side and from their left-hand side; and Thou shalt not find most of them thankful. 17 He said: Go forth from hence, degraded, banished. As for such of them as follow thee, surely I will fill hell with all of you. 18 To Adam He said, "You and your wife, dwell in the Garden and eat and drink there from wherever you wish, but do not approach this tree, lest you become wrongdoers." 19 Then Shaitan (Satan) whispered suggestions to them both in order to uncover that which was hidden from them of their private parts (before); he said: "Your Lord did not forbid you this tree save you should become angels or become of the immortals." 20 And he swore to them both, that he was their sincere adviser. 21 So he misled them with deception. Then when they tasted of the tree, that which was hidden from them of their shame (private parts) became manifest to them and they began to stick together the leaves of Paradise over themselves (in order to cover their shame). And their Lord called out to them (saying): "Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you: Verily, Shaitan (Satan) is an open enemy unto you?" 22 They said: Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost! 23 He said: Go down (from hence), one of you a foe unto the other. There will be for you on earth a habitation and provision for a while. 24 He told them that, on earth, they would live, die, and be resurrected. 25
