And indeed, even before [the return of Moses] had Aaron said unto them: "O my people! You are but being tempted to evil by this [idol] - for, behold, your [only] Sustainer is the Most Gracious! Follow me, then, and obey my bidding!" 90 They replied: 'We will not stop; we will cling to it until Moses returns to us.' 91 But (Moses) said: "O Aaron, when you saw that they had gone astray, what hindered you 92 Did you disobey my orders?" 93 Aaron answered: "Son of my mother! Do not seize me with my beard, nor by (the hair of) my head. I feared that on returning you might say: 'You sowed discord among the Children of Israel, and did not pay heed to my words.'" 94 He said: What was then your object, O Samiri? 95 He answered: "I saw what the people did not see. So I took a handful of dust from the trail of the Messenger, and I flung it (into the fire). Thus did my mind prompt me." 96 'Begone! Your lot in this life is to cry: "untouchable!' said he (Moses). 'An appointment awaits you that you cannot fail to keep. Look at your god which you clung to indeed we will burn it and scatter its ashes upon the sea' 97 Your Allah is only Allah, there is no god but He; He comprehends all things in (His) knowledge. 98 Thus do We relate to you (some) of the news of what has gone before; and indeed We have given to you a Reminder from Ourselves. 99 Whoever turns away from it, will bear a burden on the Day of Resurrection. 100 They will remain in it forever – what an evil burden it will be for them on the Day of Resurrection! 101 On the day when the Trumpet is blown and We shall assemble the guilty on that day, blue -eyed. 102 Whispering secretly among themselves, “You have not stayed on earth but for ten days.” 103 We know best what they will say. The most perceptive of them will say, "You stayed only one day." 104
