And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 So he shared (with them), but was of those who are cast off. 141 So the whale swallowed him, for he was blameworthy, 142 And had he not been one of those who glorify (Allah) 143 He would have tarried in its belly till the day when they are raised; 144 ۞ We then put him ashore on a plain, and he was sick. 145 and We caused a gourd tree to grow over him. 146 Then We sent him to a hundred thousand or more, 147 So they accepted faith – We therefore gave them usage for a while. 148 So ask their opinion: “(Are you convinced) that your Lord should have daughters and you should have sons? 149 Or, did We create the angels females while they were witnessing? 150 Is it not that they say, from their own invention, 151 That “Allah has offspring”; and indeed, surely, they are liars. 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What ails you that you judge in such a wise? 154 Will you not then mind? 155 Or have you clear evidence? 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 They link Him with jinns by lineage, yet the jinns know they will be brought before Him. 158 Exaltations to Allah above what they describe, 159 Except His chosen creatures who do not. 160 Therefore you and all what you worship. (The disbelievers and their deities.) 161 you shall not tempt any against Him 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 As for us, there is none but has an appointed station. 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 And we are most surely they who declare the glory (of Allah). 166 And indeed they (Arab pagans) used to say; 167 'If only we had a reminder from the ancients, 168 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah." 169 Yet (now that it is come) they disbelieve therein; but they will come to know. 170 Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys; 171 will certainly be victorious 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 So turn thou aside from them for a season. 174 And (then) see them, so they too shall see. 175 Do they really wish to hasten Our punishment? 176 But when it cometh home to them, then it will be a hapless morn for those who have been warned. 177 So turn away from them for a while. 178 and see, soon they shall see! 179 Hallowed be thine Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they ascribe! 180 Peace be on the Messengers. 181 And all the praise and thanks be to Allah, Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 182
