Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 By the night when it withdraweth. 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 who in their gardens will be enquiring 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 Till death overtook us. 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 What aileth them, therefore, that they are from the admonition turning away? 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
