He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
