Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I swear by this city - 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He says, "I destroyed vast wealth." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
