I told them, "Messengers, eat from the pure things and act righteously; I know all that you do. 51 Your religion is one and I am your Lord. Have fear of Me". 52 But they (who claim to follow you) have torn their unity wide asunder, piece by piece, each group delighting in [but] what they themselves possess [by way of tenets]. 53 So leave them in their error for a time. 54 Do they fancy that Our continuing to give them wealth and children (means) that 55 We would hasten them on in every good? Nay, they do not understand. 56 Those who tremble with fear of their Lord; 57 And they who believe in the signs of their Lord 58 And those who ascribe not partners unto their Lord, 59 who give what they give, with their hearts quaking, that they will return to their Lord: 60 It is these who race for the good deeds, and they are foremost in them [e.g. offering the compulsory Salat (prayers) in their (early) stated, fixed times and so on]. 61 And [withal.] We do not burden any human being with more than he is well able to bear: for with Us is a record that speaks the truth [about what men do and can do]; and none shall be wronged. 62 But their hearts are in confused ignorance of this; and there are, besides that, deeds of theirs, which they will (continue) to do,- 63 So that when We seize the affluent among them with affliction, they will begin to implore for help. 64 Supplicate not this day! Assuredly ye will not be helped by Us. 65 My Signs were rehearsed to you and you turned back on your heels and took to flight, 66 “Priding yourself in serving the Sacred Mosque; at night you utter indecent stories in it, while discarding the truth.” 67 Have they not pondered the matter, or did that come to them, which did not come to their forefathers? 68 Or, is it that they recognised not their apostle, and so of him they become deniers? 69 Or do they say: "There is madness in him"? Nay, he has brought them the truth - and the truth do most of them detest! 70 And had the Truth followed their desires, then indeed the heavens and the earth and all those who are in them would be destroyed; in fact We brought to them a thing in which lay their repute, so they are turned away from their own repute. 71 Or is it that you (O Muhammad SAW) ask them for some wages? But the recompense of your Lord is better, and He is the Best of those who give sustenance. 72 You are calling them to a Straight Way, 73 But indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter are deviating from the path. 74 ۞ Even if We were to grant them mercy and rescue them from hardship, they would still blindly persist in their rebellion. 75 We struck them with torment, but they did not submit themselves to their Lord, nor did they make themselves humble 76 until We opened upon them the door of a severe chastisement. Then lo, in this state they become utterly despaired of any good. 77
