The tribe of A'ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 "And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?" 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 "Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know." 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
