The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
THE HOUR HAS come and split is the moon. 1 And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is continuous magic." 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 And indeed the news which had a lot of deterrence, came to them. 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 so he cried out to his Lord, saying, "I am overcome, so help me!" 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 We carried him, (Noah), on a vessel built with boards fixed together with nails, 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 And assuredly We left it for a sign. Is there then anyone who would be admonished? 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 22
