The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And your garments purify! 4 And pollution shun. 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 it will be a hard day 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
