Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In a high Garden 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
