In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Sad 1 AN ACCOUNT of the grace which thy Sustainer bestowed upon His servant Zachariah: 2 when he called upon his Lord in secret, 3 saying: 'O my Lord, my bones are enfeebled, and my head glows silver with age. Yet, never Lord, have I been unblessed in prayer to You. 4 And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir 5 "(One that) will (truly) represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord! one with whom Thou art well-pleased!" 6 [Thereupon the angels called out unto him: "O Zachariah! We bring thee the glad tiding of [the birth of] a son whose name shall be John. [And God says,] "Never have We given this name to anyone before him." 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age." 8 He said: So shall it be, your Lord says: It is easy to Me, and indeed I created you before, when you were nothing. 9 He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights. 10 Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night. 11 'O John, take the Book forcefully'; and We gave him judgment, yet a little child, 12 as well as, by Our grace, [the gift of] compassion and purity; and he was [always] conscious of Us 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. 14 Hence, [God's] peace was upon him on the day when he was born, and on the day of his death, and will be [upon him] on the day when he shall be raised to life [again]. 15
