The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
