Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And by ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
