The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
