The Town (Al-Balad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
