The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 They said: "O Moses! Either thou shalt throw [thy staff first,] or we shall [be the first to] throw." 115 He said: Throw! And when they threw they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and overawed them, and produced a mighty spell. 116 We put it into Moses's mind by inspiration: "Throw (now) thy rod": and behold! it swallows up straight away all the falsehoods which they fake! 117 ۞ whereupon the truth was established, and vain was proved all that they had been doing. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 and the sorcerers prostrated themselves, 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 122 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed in Him before I gave you leave. Surely this is a device you have devised in the city that you may expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 They replied, "We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 "And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims." 126
