۞ And indeed We bestowed aforetime on Ibrahim (Abraham) his (portion of) guidance, and We were Well-Acquainted with him (as to his Belief in the Oneness of Allah, etc.). 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?" 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 Abraham replied, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them, and I bear witness to that. 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 He said: Surely (some doer) has done it; the chief of them is this, therefore ask them, if they can speak. 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
