NAY, but consider the moon! 32 By the night when it withdraweth. 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 a warning to humans, 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 [On the Day of Judgment,] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever [evil] he has wrought 38 Save the fellows of the right. 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 About the guilty: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 Till death overtook us. 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 running away from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 This will certainly never be the case! In fact, they are not afraid of the Day of Judgment. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
